Council praises rehabilitation services
The work of offenders involved with Wales Community Rehabilitation Company’s (CRC) Community Payback Team to help maintain Cardiff’s cemeteries has been praised by Cardiff Council’s Bereavement Services Team.
Wales CRC’s Community Payback supervisors Gary Lloyd and Kelly McTair lead the work, giving people with convictions the opportunity to ‘pay back’ for the crimes they have committed. Their work with Cardiff Council involves clearing and maintaining older areas of some of the city’s cemeteries.
A spokesman for the Council’s Bereavement Services team said: “The work Gary and Kelly do is outstanding and done to a very high standard. They provide an excellent service to the public.
“The teams they work with learn about all aspects of ground clearance, maintenance works, gardening techniques and the correct way to carry out these tasks - they’re teaching people a new trade, providing them with useful skills which should help them find paid employment after they have completed their sentences.
“The project is an excellent example of partnership working that benefits a wide number of people across Cardiff.”
