Offenders are often required to take part in demanding physical work, such sentences have proved to be effective in reducing offending and helps them face up to their actions.

As part of their order, offenders may have to take part in a programme to address their behaviour and Wales CRC provides a wide range which tackle issues such as domestic abuse, substance misuse, drink driving, gambling and aggression.

Offender managers may also be involved in developing a package of support such as help with housing, mental health, education and training and financial management to help offenders turn their lives around for the better.

By serving their sentence in the community offenders are better able to keep in touch with their family and retain their home and job, all factors that can help stop them reoffending.

Offenders who are given a sentence to be served in the community are supervised by an offender manager. The two parties have a contract and the offender must agree to attend supervision appointments.
