Community Payback

Community Payback benefits local communities across the region as offenders pay back for the crimes they have committed. Projects range from litter removal to clearing dense undergrowth and environmental projects through to repairing and redecorating community centres or removing graffiti. Offenders work as part of a team or on an individual placement and are monitored by a supervisor, working all day.

Community Payback has a number of benefits:

  • It provides a tough, effective and visible punishment and deterrent, requiring people to undertake challenging work, at inconvenient times, typically at the weekend.
  • It provides a clear and tangible value back to communities that suffer as a result of crime.
  • It gives service users positive experiences of what can be achieved by working together in a team in a structured and disciplined way while also making some reparation for the harm they have caused.
  • Enables service users to learn new skills that can help them towards getting paid employment and lead more stable, positive and crime-free lives in the future.

Nominate a project

We choose projects which will make a contribution to communities, whilst not taking work away from law-abiding citizens. Local charities and community groups are then able to undertake projects which they couldn’t otherwise afford.

Do you have a project you think Community Payback can help you with? To be considered your project must meet the following criteria:

  • It must benefit the local community
  • It must be challenging and demanding
  • It must be worthwhile and constructive
  • Offenders must be seen to be putting something back into the community.

Anyone can nominate a project, so, if you are an individual, member of a club, community group, faith group or voluntary organisation and have a project that fits the criteria above, please complete the form below.
